Latin is an ancient and dead language that is still widely studied by scholars and members of the clergy. It is considered one of the classical languages, and a large number of works were written in Latin originally, so surely some users will still find a tool like this to be a useful one. Latin Translator is, therefore, a software tool which can quickly translate Latin phrases or paragraphs into English.
The program's interface is not very elaborate, however, and its design could be easily improved. It may a little bit difficult to understand at first, especially because there is hardly any documentation or help available. It basically consists of three panels - one that allows you to type or paste the source Latin text, another one to display the translation and (optionally) the grammar explanation, and one more for definitions. The program works in two different modes: "entry" and "translate". The entry mode is designed to let you freely type or paste the source text on the left panel in Latin. When you change to translation mode, you can automatically see on the panel on your right the translation that corresponds with the typed/pasted text. You can also choose whether to show a Grammar explanation or not.
Furthermore, the program also allows you to add new entries to the built-in dictionary, and to reload it. It presents a toolbar on the top that lets you access all the functions mentioned above easily. It also offers you a Help button - however, the only help the program actually offers is an "About" window. The program itself recommends you to write an e-mail to the developer in case you need any further help, and even to register it. You also count on menu commands to open previously saved Latin text, or to save the corresponding English translation as a file.
In general terms, the program's performance offers no problems, but it seems that its default dictionary is a bit poor - it did not recognize many of the words contained in several sample Latin texts.
